"Operation Ash Rising"
International SO event

This event has finished

The Volcán de Fuego has erupted, triggering a large-scale humanitarian crisis in Guatemala and forcing the full evacuation of Antigua Guatemala. In response, IVAO XS Central America launches Operation Ash Rising, a coordinated Special Operations event designed to simulate a complex humanitarian air bridge under volcanic ash conditions.

La Aurora International Airport (MGGT) serves as the primary coordination hub for evacuation flights, humanitarian cargo, and MEDEVAC operations. Retalhuleu Airport (MGRT), located 68 NM southwest of AUR VOR, has been activated as the forward operating base for relief distribution, medical staging, and rotary-wing SAR missions.

Due to volcanic ash contamination, the Palín Pass route is closed. All participating aircraft must follow the designated humanitarian corridor via Antigua – Alotenango – Escuintla – CA-2 – Mazatenango, or the alternate coastal routing when required. Expect high traffic density, coordinated ATC sequencing, and structured reporting points throughout the operation.

Participants may join as:

Fixed-Wing Humanitarian Flights (HUM) transporting supplies and evacuees MGGT ↔ MGRT

MEDEVAC Operations evacuating critically injured patients to hospital facilities

Helicopter SAR Missions operating at low altitude in isolated rural sectors

ATC Controllers managing intensive Special Operations traffic within the designated corridor

This event emphasizes realistic routing, altitude separation, operational discipline, and structured communication under high workload conditions.

Step into a dynamic disaster-relief scenario where precision flying, teamwork, and coordinated ATC make the difference.
